Solar Panel Servicing in Peterborough
Your array has worked every daylight hour since the day it was commissioned. NICEIC-approved inspection, testing and maintenance keeps it generating safely — with the paperwork your insurer expects.

Peterborough's rooftops have quietly filled with solar — on the commuter estates, on business park units, on farm buildings out towards the Fens. Much of it went up during the feed-in tariff years, and much of it has not been looked at since. The panels are usually the reliable part. It is the electrical system around them that ages.
DC isolators corrode and seize. Inverters develop faults and log them silently. Rooftop connectors loosen through years of thermal cycling, and a loose DC connection does not trip a breaker — it arcs. None of this is visible from the ground, and most of it stays invisible in your generation figures until output has already fallen.
LS Elec inspects, tests and maintains existing solar PV systems across Peterborough. We are an NICEIC Approved Contractor and we do not sell new installations, so the advice you receive is about the system you own — measured, tested and put in writing.
- NICEIC Approved Contractor testing to BS 7671
- Servicing and maintenance only — no new installs, no upsell
- Thermal imaging finds hot connections before they become fire risks
- String, isolator, insulation and inverter testing, all documented
- Reports written for insurers, buyers and duty holders
- Fixed quotes before any work begins
Why an array that still generates can still be unsafe
Generation figures are a blunt instrument. A large array can keep exporting while one string sits dead, an isolator seizes in position, or insulation breaks down on a cable run nobody can see. The fault develops; the meter keeps turning; nothing prompts anyone to look.
Periodic inspection and testing to BS 7671 is how these faults get found while they are still cheap. Panels themselves degrade slowly and predictably. The isolators, connectors, cabling and inverter around them are where the real failures happen — and where the fire risk sits.
What a solar PV service from LS Elec includes
We inspect the panels, fixings and cable routes, operate and test every AC and DC isolator, and measure string voltages and currents against what your array should be producing. Insulation resistance testing picks up damaged cabling; earthing and bonding checks confirm the system is still safe to touch and to work on.
We review the inverter's fault log, inspect connectors and terminations, and use thermal imaging to find hot joints and underperforming panels that look fine to the eye. Every result is measured, recorded and compared against the previous visit.
The paperwork that satisfies insurers, buyers and boards
Insurers are asking harder questions about rooftop DC systems, and a shrug is not an answer. For commercial premises, the position is stricter still: your PV system is part of your electrical installation, and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 place a duty on you to maintain it so it is safe.
A dated service report — test results, thermal images, defects and the remedial work done — is how that duty is demonstrated. It also does quiet work elsewhere: at insurance renewal, during a property sale, or when a board asks what is actually on the roof.
Independent servicing, with no install to sell you
We do not fit new arrays, so a service visit never turns into a sales pitch. If something needs attention — a seized isolator, a damaged connector, a failed inverter — we quote for the repair or replacement and carry it out. If nothing needs attention, the report says so.
We service systems on rented homes, school and care home roofs, industrial units and agricultural buildings across the Peterborough area, for owners who want one thing: to know the array is safe, working and on the record.

FAQ
Good questions we hear a lot
Do you install new solar panels?
No. We service, inspect, test and maintain existing solar PV systems. Because we have no installation to sell, our recommendations are limited to what your system actually needs — a repair, the replacement of a failed component, or nothing at all.
My inverter is showing a fault code. Is that something you handle?
Yes. We diagnose inverter faults, test the strings and isolators around them, and either repair the cause or manage the replacement of a failed unit. Many inverter faults turn out to be problems elsewhere on the DC side, which is why we test before we replace.
Is my solar system covered by a standard EICR?
Often only partially. Many EICRs record the PV system as a limitation, because testing the DC side calls for specific equipment and competence. We test both sides of the inverter — and if an EICR is due as well, we can carry out both in a single visit.
What do I get at the end of a solar service?
A dated record of every test and measurement, thermal images where commissioned, and a plain-English summary of any defects with recommended remedial work. It is the evidence insurers increasingly ask for, and it helps commercial duty holders demonstrate maintenance under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
