Commercial Electrical Compliance Programme

Periodic inspection and testing of a commercial premises, phased around operations so the business kept trading.

The brief
The client needed periodic inspection and testing of their commercial premises to meet their legal obligations under the Electricity at Work Regulations and maintain a safe working environment — without shutting the operation down to do it.
What we did
  • Surveyed the distribution and agreed a phased testing plan by area and by time, so circuits were isolated in sequence rather than all at once.
  • Carried out full inspection and testing to BS 7671 — dead and live tests on every circuit, with observations coded and photographed.
  • Reported in plain English, with a remedial quotation for any items needing attention and a recommended retest interval.
The outcome
The premises received its Electrical Installation Condition Report with minimal disruption to operations, and the client now has a documented compliance position and a scheduled retest date rather than an unknown.

Fire Alarm Installation & Ongoing Maintenance

A conventional fire alarm system installed in an HMO, now maintained under a routine inspection and testing schedule.

The brief
A house in multiple occupation required a compliant fire detection system to protect residents and satisfy licensing requirements — and someone to keep it tested and certified afterwards.
What we did
  • Designed and installed a conventional fire alarm system to BS 5839-6, with detection and sounders positioned for the layout and occupancy of the property.
  • Commissioned and certified the system on completion, with the logbook set up for ongoing records.
  • Agreed a routine inspection, testing and certification schedule so the system stays compliant and reliable.
The outcome
Residents are protected by a certified system, the licence conditions are evidenced, and the landlord has one contractor responsible for keeping it that way.

Consumer Unit Replacement

An outdated consumer unit replaced with a modern metal enclosure, RCBO and surge protection, tested and certified to BS 7671.

The brief
The existing consumer unit was outdated and lacked modern protection — the most common cause of an unsatisfactory inspection report and a genuine safety risk.
What we did
  • Replaced the unit with a modern metal enclosure providing RCBO protection on every circuit, so one fault no longer takes out the whole installation.
  • Added surge protection to safeguard connected equipment.
  • Carried out full testing of the installation and issued certification to BS 7671, with Building Regulations notification.
The outcome
A safer, fully certified installation with modern protection, labelled and documented for the owner's records and any future inspection.

Domestic & Commercial EV Charging

EV charging installed and commissioned with testing, certification and handover — safe, reliable charging for home or workplace use.

The brief
The client needed a safe and reliable EV charging solution, installed to current standards and handed over with the paperwork that warranty and insurance require.
What we did
  • Assessed the supply and existing installation, including load and the earthing arrangement the charger required.
  • Installed and commissioned the charge point, with the dedicated circuit and protection specified for EV charging.
  • Tested and certified the installation, then walked the customer through operation at handover.
The outcome
A charge point that works as intended from day one, with certification in hand and a contractor on call for maintenance.

Domestic Electrical Installation Condition Report

Complete inspection and testing of a residential property with clear reporting, photographs and certification — remedials completed where required.

The brief
A residential property needed a full condition report, with any findings explained clearly and put right by the same contractor.
What we did
  • Inspected and tested the installation in full, with observations coded to BS 7671 and photographed.
  • Explained every observation in plain English, with a fixed-price quotation for the remedial works required.
  • Completed the remedials and re-tested, issuing certification for the finished installation.
The outcome
A satisfactory report, a safer installation and a set of documents the owner can hand to an agent, insurer or buyer without explanation.

Kitchen Lighting Installation

Layered lighting for an open-plan kitchen — recessed downlights, a concealed LED feature to the roof lantern and under-cabinet task lighting.

The brief
A newly fitted open-plan kitchen needed lighting that worked as hard as the room: bright enough to cook by, soft enough to eat by, with the roof lantern as the centrepiece after dark.
What we did
  • Recessed LED downlights set out to the island and worktops rather than a plain grid, so the light lands where it's used.
  • A concealed LED strip around the roof lantern upstand to wash the ceiling and make the lantern a feature at night.
  • Under-cabinet lighting to the worktops, with all circuits tested and certified on completion.
The outcome
A kitchen that photographs the way it feels — evenly lit, no shadows across the worktops, and a lantern that glows rather than gapes.

Detached Triple Garage — Lighting & Power

Internal and external lighting to a new-build, open-fronted triple garage, with the wiring contained so nothing is on show.

The brief
A newly built open-fronted triple garage needed a full electrical installation — internal lighting to each bay and external lighting to the posts, finished to the same standard as the house it serves.
What we did
  • Recessed downlights to each bay for even, shadow-free light across the whole floor.
  • External downlights on the front posts to light the apron and approach after dark.
  • Cabling contained within the structure with a tidy, labelled board, then tested and certified.
The outcome
Three bays that are as usable at night as in the day, external lighting that makes the building a feature, and certification for the owner's records.
